Any other first-gen students here?

Sometimes it feels like we’re figuring out college from scratch. Financial aid, office hours, academic lingo - it’s all a learning curve.

Would love to hear how other first-gen folks are managing. What’s something you wish someone had told you before starting?

Yep, first-gen here 🙋‍♂️
Honestly, the hardest part was not knowing what I didn’t know — like how office hours actually work or what a bursar even is 😅
Biggest advice: don’t be afraid to ask “obvious” questions. Most people had someone explain it to them

First-gen here 🙋‍♀️ - honestly, I wish someone had just told me you’re allowed to ask questions. I spent my whole first semester pretending I understood everything (FAFSA, credits, even what a “syllabus” actually meant). Office hours felt scary until I realized professors literally sit there hoping someone shows up. You’re not behind - you’re just building the manual as you go.
