How to use AI to write a paper faster

Hey, this will probably sound desperate, but I need your help

I have this massive research paper due in two weeks, but my mental energy is like below zero and I’m thinking about using AI to write at least some parts of my paper or find proper sources online.

After a quick search for prompting techniques and tips, I’m already so confused! The whole thing looks even more complicated than I imagined. Besides, those tips mostly come from content creators, not someone who uses AI for academic purposes.

I want advice from students like me who’ve been there, done that, and can share their experience on how to use AI to help write a paper quickly and with way less effort. You’re my last hope before I turn burnout mode on!

I’ve been using AI to write a paper for a while now, and honestly the quality depends way more on the workflow than the tool itself.

Two things that made the biggest difference for me:

First - I never ask for a full paper in one shot. I split it into parts: outline → arguments → paragraphs → final edit. When you do that, the text stops feeling generic and actually stays consistent.

Second - I always “force constraints” in prompts. Like: specific structure, word limits per section, and asking it to include counterarguments. Without that, you just get fluffy, repetitive content.

After that I do a final pass where I basically treat the AI draft like raw notes - I rewrite parts, cut filler, and tighten logic. That’s where the real quality comes from.

If you just press “write me a paper”, yeah, it’s gonna look like obvious AI. If you guide it step by step, it becomes way more usable.
