Is ChatGPT down? Anyone else having issues?

I just need to check if I'm losing my mind or if it's actually happening - is ChatGPT down right now? I keep getting random error messages when trying to log in, and the responses time out even when it finally loads.

This is SO frustrating because I had an assignment to finish, and now I can't tell if it's just me and my connection, or if the service itself is having problems.

Has anyone else experienced this today? Any workarounds while waiting for things to get back to normal?

Same here, I thought my internet was just acting up. I reset my router twice before realizing it wasn't on my end.
It's funny how dependent I've become on Chatgpt cause the moment it glitches, my whole workflow feels off. I wonder if there's a status page somewhere that shows when they're having issues. Would make life easier than doom-scrolling trying to figure it out

I had the same problem this morning and gave up after ten tries. Restarting didn’t help at all!! Do these outages usually last long, or is it something that clears up in a couple of hours? I’m new to using it daily, so I don’t know if this happens often. Anyone keeping track of how many times this has happened lately?

I also keept getting the "network error" thing, and thought maybe my wifi was bad. But then I checked twitter and saw a few people mentioning chatgpt down so I guess it's bigger. It makes me kinda nervous honestly, cause I was mid chat with a long context and now I'm scared all of it is gone. I wish they had some offline mode or something. Do you guys know if conversations auto save when the servers fail?

Convos are saved, no need to panic. I’ve never lost one, even mid-crash. Offline mode sounds cool, but don’t you think it would be messy with updates? I doubt OpenAI wants people storing sensitive chats locally. Would you actually trust that with privacy concerns?

I've checked twice and yes, ChatGPT down right now for me as well. I was in the middle of outlining a research paper, and every time I try to regenerate a response it throws an error.

These outages feel more frequent lately. Maybe it's just more noticeable now that more people rely on it for school and work.

Does anyone know if OpenAI posts updates somewhere official?

Yeah, usually it doesn’t last very long. From my experience it’s like 30 minutes to an hour at most, unless they’re rolling out some major update. I wouldn’t stress too much, but maybe don’t count on it if you have something due in the next hour. Always good to have a backup plan.

Dunno, last month it was out for almost half a day where I live. So yeah, sometimes they can drag chat gpt down for longer than just 30 mins depends on what they're fixing, I guess

That’s a fair point about privacy, but other apps have offline modes with encryption. Why couldn’t ChatGPT? I’d rather risk local storage than lose access mid-deadline. Don’t you think students would use that nonstop if it existed?

I had the same fear about losing long conversations, but luckily mine reappeared after the site finally loaded again. It seems like they do autosave chats on the account level, so even if you disconnect mid reply, you can still recover older messages.

What sucks is when you’re relying on a particular thread for research flow, and suddenly the continuity breaks. That’s what makes outages so stressful!

I wonder if this is something we should just expect with growing demand. Like, is it realistic to think Chatgpt can be 100% stable all the time? Servers get overloaded, maintenance happens… Maybe we should start keeping a list of alternatives for when this happens. What backup tools do you all use when Chatgpt goes offline?
