Is Chegg legit? Why is its rating so low?

So I was about to sign up for Chegg tutoring because I'm dying with my calc assignments
At first, the platform looked helpful (24/7 tutors, Q&A, study help, all that.) But then I started reading Chegg review here on Nocramming and saw a not-so-reassuring picture. Now I'm second-guessing.
Has anyone here tried it for math or science help? Is Chegg legit at all?

I tried Chegg once for physics problems. The tutor answered quickly but just gave formulas without much explanation. So I didn’t learn anything.

I think Chegg is safe to use, but the result depends on your expectations. Don't expect them to babysit you

I found Chegg okayish. The best part was the textbook solutions cause they helped me understand steps for my econ course. But the tutoring sessions felt rushed! I wouldn't call it 100% reliable, but if you need quick fixes or to double-check your own work, it can do the job. Still, the subscription price made me think twice about keeping it long term.

If you look at some chegg.com reviews outside of reddit, you’ll see the same pattern: people like the fast answers, but complain about quality.

Tbh I thought it was a scam at first cuz my first tutor just copy-pasted a wiki answer but then I got another tutor who explained step by step. So…you never know what ur gonna get.

From what I've seen in different Chegg reviews, the main issue is inconsistency. Everything depends on the tutor you're lucky (or unlucky) to get.

Okay, here goes: I've used Chegg twice for organic chem. The first time, the tutor was patient and walked me through the reaction steps. The second time, the tutor answered in like two minutes with no explanation. I was like, WTF?! I'd say it's 50/50 whether you get a good tutor...
